This past weekend, I had the pleasure of going white water rafting on the American River. I wish I had taken some pictures, but unfortunately I did not whip out my camera at all. But here is my opinion anyway.
American River - South Fork Run; Class III White Water Rafting System; about an 8 mile run I believe. At first, any ripple in the water seemed terrifying to me since I had no idea how the boat was going to take it. During the introduction, the guide made me believe that it was often that people fell off the boat. This was unfortunately, not true.
Class III is absolutely harmless. It's like one of those less thrilling rides at an amusement park. Most of the time, we were just floating along and when near other boats, would splash water on them with our paddles and water pails and shoot them with water guns. I think all in all, we had about 3 - 4 rapids that was "thrilling" to a certain degree.
I would recommend Class IV for a more exciting and thrilling ride!! But all in all, I had a great first time experience and would love to go on a Class IV rapids my next trip!
