Movie Review / National Treasure 2 / Primal Fear

National Treasure 2: Pretty entertaining. I like Nicholas Cage so I had lots of fun watching him. Some pretty funny scenes as well ! :)

Primal Fear: I'm going to kill Rich for making me watch this. It was absolutely very good in the beginning - Richard Gere is usually pretty damn good in all his movies. Edward Norton - great acting. And then the ending just blew me away. I absolutely hated it!

Books! / China Boy

Status: Finished

Review: Pretty good book. It was recommended to me by J.G. I understand why he liked it - it's about fighting!! A little Chinese boy growing up in the streets of San Francisco in the 1950s.

What I found very interesting and super fun was the fact that it was local - when they mentioned streets in the book, I knew where there streets were since I see them every day!!

Thanks for the recommendation!! :)

White Water Rafting

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of going white water rafting on the American River. I wish I had taken some pictures, but unfortunately I did not whip out my camera at all. But here is my opinion anyway.

American River - South Fork Run; Class III White Water Rafting System; about an 8 mile run I believe. At first, any ripple in the water seemed terrifying to me since I had no idea how the boat was going to take it. During the introduction, the guide made me believe that it was often that people fell off the boat. This was unfortunately, not true.

Class III is absolutely harmless. It's like one of those less thrilling rides at an amusement park. Most of the time, we were just floating along and when near other boats, would splash water on them with our paddles and water pails and shoot them with water guns. I think all in all, we had about 3 - 4 rapids that was "thrilling" to a certain degree.

I would recommend Class IV for a more exciting and thrilling ride!! But all in all, I had a great first time experience and would love to go on a Class IV rapids my next trip!

Jane Austen Book Club / Summer 2008

Last night I watched the movie: The Jane Austen Book Club. I had absolutely no expectations for it and found the movie oh so very cute. It reminded me of the movie: Love Actually in that there were lots of different main characters who have their own lives and relationships. These people come together every month to talk about the Jane Austen book they all agreed to read.

After watching this movie, I have realized that although I have watched a few of the movies based on Jane Austen's books, I have not really read any of them.

Therefore, I have ordered the main 6 books by Austen and will be reading them throughout the summer. As soon as I finish China Boy by Gus Lee, I will start with Emma, Jane Austen!!

Food! / Zingari Ristorante!

ZINGARI RISTORANTE

This is the cutest restaurant ever! I love italian food so I was very excited to try this place out. The occasion: Jane's Birthday! Yay!! I will try to upload the one picture we took when I get it from her next time.

I got there around 6pm after work. Jane was already there. I bussed it and finally walked the 4 blocks to Post and Mason. This restaurant is in the Donatello hotel it looks like. Very posh!

The owner or manager named Christian, he was fabulous. I loved him! He's very friendly with all his guests and one of those "I like to chat with everyone because I love everyone" type of guy.

At the bar, Jane and I had a glass of wine. I don't know anything about wine so I couldn't tell you how great it was or how bad it was. All I know is that it was hot yesterday, I had to walk hauling a laptop, so my refreshingly cold glass of the white house wine was fabulous! We also tried the bruchetta and the Fritto Misto which was fried calamari and yellow onions. Both are very good appetizers. Btw, happy hours are from 4:30 - 7pm with 50% off appetizers!

For dinner, I had just a main course since I was full from the appetizers. I had the Spaghettini, Alio, Olio, Pomodoro e Basilco - which according to the menu is spaghetti with fresh roasted plum tomatoes and basil & garlic marinara sauce. It was excellent.

All in all - loved the restaurant - would go there more often if I was closer to it!! :)

Happy Birthday Janey!

Food! / Asia de Cuba

ASIA DE CUBA

The president of the Korean American Bar Association took me out to lunch last week. We went to to Asia De Cuba. It is at the Clift Hotel in San Francisco located at the corner of Taylor and Geary.

It's very swanky! I couldn't help but notice the fabulous interior decorations. Apparently the bar next door is a very nice place to go after work. There is or use to be a painting on the wall where the eyes would just follow you. Pretty fascinating. There is also this huge chair in the main room - apparently you can sit in it. Even though I wanted to, I refrained myself. I will have to try it out next time!

Here is a picture of what I basically had. I love variety so I went with the Bento Box for Dine About Town! Vegetables were good. The shrimp was delicious (I'm a huge fan of shrimp). I had the chicken salad that is not shown here, which was okay - too peanutty in my opinion. Dessert - well, I don't like dessert and I like chocolate desserts even less so I ate the raspberry which was really good! :)
Thank you for lunch!

Eat! Pray! Love!

Eat! Pray! Love! I just finished this book after starting it almost a year ago. I had left off during her second phase of her journey in India to Indonesia.

This book is really cute, very easy read and quite frankly it is just real. I really like how honest the author is about what she is thinking and feeling. She doesn't undermine what she believes, feels, thinks - instead she's very open to so many different ways of interpreting what it is that she believes, feels, thinks.

"I married young and quick, from a palce of love and hope, but without a lot of discussion over what the realities of marriage would mean. Nobody advised me on my marriage. I had been raised by my parents to be independent, self-providing, self-deciding. By the time I reached the age of twenty-four, it was assumed by everyone that I could make all my own choices, autonomously. Of course the world was not always like this. If I'd been born during any other century of Western patriarchy, I would've been considered the property of my father, until which time he passed me over to my husband, to become marital property. I would've had precious little say in the major matters of my own life. At one time in history, if a man had been my suitor, my father might have sat that man down with a long list of questions to establish whether this would be an appropriate match. He would have watned to know, 'How will you provide for my daughter? What is your reputation in this community? How is your health? Where will you take her to live? What are you debts and your assets? What are the strengths of your character?' My father would not have just given me away in marriage to anybody for the mere fact that I was in love with the fellow. But in modern life, when I made the decision to marry, my modern father didn't become involved at all. He would have no more interefered with that decision than he would have told me how to style my hair.

I have no nostalgia for the patriarchy, please believe me. But what I have come to realize is that, when that patriarchic system was (rightfully) dismantled, it was not necessarily replaced by another form of protection. What I mean is - I never thought to ask a suitor the same challenging questions my father might have asked him, in a different age. I have given myself away in love many times, merely for the sake of love ... If I am to truly become an autonomous woman, then I must take over that role of being my own guardian."

It is just so crystal clear!

Temple

No, not the religious temple. Rather - I'm talking about the club Temple in downtown San Francisco. Went there with a couple of friends and I came out this morning sore. We got there around 10:30, the place was pretty empty. Pretty damn empty. We got on the guestlist so that we didn't have to pay cover. No worrying about the line since there was none at the time. Got a few drinks and when there were sufficient amount of people on the dance floor AND had a sufficient amount of liquor in me did I venture out on the dance floor - where I stayed for at least more than an hour. The main room (not the white room or the upstairs room) was the best I thought because it played normal hiphop music. I cannot - CAN NOT dance to trance or house or whatever it was they were playing there. Let's just say I am not talented enough.

On the dance floor I was happy that a boy was in our group so that he could drive off the random boys who get the courage to try and dance with us girls. G couldn't get enough of dancing because she can never get enough of it. Although around midnight, I think she started getting tired. We're not old, but we left at like 12:30 because we're losers. Still, I had super fun mainly because I was pretty drunk and happily dancing my little feet off.

I would recommend this club! :)

Ohh Angela!

I must write this down before I can't write it down again.

YAY FOR GRADES!!! I'm kicking ass - or rather, I kicked ass last semester. B+ B+ A-. The reason why I don't think I can say this later is because I am waiting for one more grade which I expect more or less to be C- or WORSE! *horrors*

but for now ... YAY FOR GRADES !!!!

Ohh Angela!

Here is my first official "Ohh Angela!" post!

Today as I was walking down the stairs from my apartment down to the lobby, I seriously tripped and was about to fall face flat down the stairs. Honest to goodness, it was one of the most scarier moments of my life. Do not ask me how I tripped - since I was wearing flip flops. Probably in my haste to get to work on time, I must have just been ... well ... .. . hasty. Well, lucky for me I don't know how I did it but I was able to pull my other foot out in front of me and just jumped down to the floor. Thank heavens I was already most of the way down the stairs.

Now you can see why this blogger is called "ohh Angela!" ~~

Food!!

I want to learn how to cook new things. I have been looking online as this trial in the courtroom commenced this morning. I like Italian food and I like Korean food.

This is what RK made for me for valentine's day this year!! Needless to say - I was very impressed! Chicken Parmesan ladies and gentlemen:

Pardon the quality of the picture. I was an idiot and did not bring my camera. This was taken from a camera phone.

Given my love for Italian food I have decided that I will try to cook 2 recipes this month. I was thinking perhaps I want to make a new dish every week, but let's be realistic here. I think I might be able to 2 new recipes!

Chicken Cacciatore - this dish I was lucky enough to sample in the 6th grade when my bff Taylor made it as the food of her country report - Italy. I remember finding it absolutely delicious. I have never had the pleasure of eating it again (at least not that I can remember).

Chicken Marsala - I always like this dish from Macroni Grill - I should try to make my own. The sauce is very unique and interesting!

Wish me luck !

Thoughtful

"Don't sweat the small stuff!"

!!

Blood!

Gave blood today! Finally! This is the third time that I have tried - 3rd time my finger was pricked (the worst part of this blood donating business in my opinion). The only difference between now and the previous 2 times: my iron level was high enough that they took a pint of my blood.

The nurse had me sit in the chair. She gets everything prepared and then proceeds to put a towel on my shirt to - I assume, catch any blood that might squirt out. Reminded me of the first time I donated blood. The nurse apparently didn't quite know what she was doing because she stuck the needle in and all I saw next is a splatter of blood on my face, neck and shirt. It was lovely.

I find the needle fascinating!! ^^
