Freakonomics

Interesting interesting book.

I'm not sure if I'm convinced by all his arguments ... - Hey, is a economics more of a scientist or a sociologist?

My favorite chapters included the one that says Roe v. Wade is what dropped the crime rate down and the one where they analyze whether or not a parent naming someone Shithead affects their lives.

I feel smarter already! ^^

Carrie Diaries by Candace Bushnell

Cute book ... Annie liked it more than I did. I've never actually read one of Bushnell's books yet, but I figured since there are no movies or tv shows after this book, seeing how I love Sex and the City the television show - I took a stab at it.

I thought it was ... ok .... ^^

Something Blue by Emily Giffin

I can't seem to stop reading these books.

This one was ok. I liked Darcy's transformation ... it made me think that anyone can change for the better.

Love the one you're with by Emily Giffin

My favorite quotes:

"A son is a son until he finds a wife. But a daughter is a daughter forever."

"... that love is the sum of our choices, the strenth of our commitments, the ties that bind us together."

"But maybe that's what it all comes down to. Love, not as a surge of passion, but as a choice to commmit to something, someone, no matter what obstacles or temptations stand in the way. And maybe making that choice, again and again, day in and day out, year after year, says more about love than never having a choice to make at all."

It is now time to pull it together, snap out of these sappy love stories and read something literary ... or at least non fiction, informative, intelligent and/or not pathetic!

Something Borrowed

Good book!! ... I am officially in love with the author. Her stories seem to be all messed up stories, but she definitely knows how to toy with my emotions.

The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown

Finished this book today. It wasn't as good as the Da Vinci Code. It was quite boring compared my reading experience with Dan Brown's famous book. Is this whole crypic, mythical, religious symbology crap boring me now? Maybe it's been overly played these many years since the Da Vinci Code came out. I use to really enjoy historical novels ...

The constant referrals to the holy bible is getting to be quite annoying. Maybe its' just my mood today.

Brooklyn by Colm Toibin

Finished this book the other day. It was alright ... the reviews were correct - the author writes very well and very beautiful. But perhaps I'm just not very literary or appreciate of this story because I found it to be a bit dull. Is it because it wasn't about vampires, sex, drugs? :)

Alternate Reality Continues

I thought perhaps after the huge high that I was on from SLC that alternate reality was over ... I was wrong - like seriously wrong.

Actually, my alternate reality will continue until the end of the week of April 4th ... and then my life is over!

Cheers!

Jambalaya for Dinner

Today, I was contemplating on whether or not I really wanted to try and make Jambalaya. I LOVE Jambalaya from CPK. When I go there, its the only thing I eat - that and maybe some of the caesar salad and the BBQ pizza. In any case, its delicious. And after having gone to Celestine in Downtown Sac for some Cajun food last week, I guess I really wanted to eat some more.

So I went to the store and bought $44 worth of colorful bell peppers and a crapload of spices. Came home and 1.5 hours later ... Waaalaah !~ (with the chopsticks on the side - I am Korean after all)

My dad got a kick out of it - he loved it. He said "never thought I'd eat this kind of food before" - of course he said that in Korean and I'm just translating. He wanted me to pack it up for his lunch tomorrow hahaha.

Anthony Marentino

I was watching Sex and the City ( as usual ) and I really started to think how much I would insanely enjoy a good gay friend like Anthony Marentino.

What I really like about him:
So blunt and totally get away with it. Absolutely outspoken and never afraid to speak his mind. Loves to dish about cute guys and relationships. Has awesome style and can gush about a Vera Wang dress. Can plan weddings perfectly. He's a gets-what-he-wants kind of person.

"We want candles, candles, candles. And I don't want short, stubby, broken up dick candles. I want long tapers. "

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

I was quite excited to read this book for a while now. It is considered one of New York Time's bestseller. It was amusing to say the least. However, I prefer the original Jane Austen novel.

Why do women fall in love with Mr. Darcy? Is it because Colin Firth is the most absolutely amazingly handsome Mr. Darcy? While I do agree with the latter, the first question is most intriguing. Darcy's character is one of arrogance, aloof mannerism. He's so arrogant that he completely dismisses Elizabeth Bennet who turned out to be the love of his life.

Yet, deep down inside we find out that he generous and true loyalty and good nature of Mr. Darcy. Isn't that the kind of perfect man that women want to fall in love with every day? Jane Austen is a genius. At first glance, you're so intrigued because he's so damn handsome, so unattainable, rich, arrogant and deliciously mysterious.

You sort of hate him for his arrogance and his complete refusal to speak to you because you're a normal girl. But then, you start to see other sides of him - his conversations are intriguing because he's intelligent. He's not some silly young man that you exchange comical banters with but can speak to your heart and mind.

Hum ... Oh Mr. Darcy!

I found this quote early on the book very funny. Charlotte, Elizabeth's friend gives her advice about marriage at the very first ball in the book:

"Happiness in marriage is entirely a matter of chance, and it is better to know as little as possible of the defects of the person with whom you are to pass your life."

Dear John

I finally finished reading this book the other day. Here's my take on it.

You are soo stupid John for letting her go like that. You are also sooo generous for giving up your father's cherished collection to give to her dying husband. But dude, get real!

I am way too selfish to just let things go if I want them and knew I could get them. Which is funny because I've been filling out these online "tests" (you know, those tests you take just for fun to see some personality trait), that I was generous and kind. I guess not because well ... seriously ... what about my life?

John is now going around life just missing the one true love of his life, not knowing what to do, so just most likely going back to the army to die in some battle. Can you really live life on some satisfaction that you did the right thing, you did something awesome for that one thing, the one person you loved above all?

Yeah, I'm sorry ... what about my life? What about all the happiness that I worked so hard for? I didn't work this hard to just give it up and let myself be a wanderer with no point to my life. Well knowing me, IF I had done something stupid like that, I would have made sure to find another passion in life or else just shoot myself in the head.

Also, how the hell do you fall so deeply in love with someone after 2 weeks of some hang time? So unrealistic!

Boy ... what an interesting mood I am in tonight!
