Instant Gratification & Happiness

So I'm actually trying to take some time out to find out what makes me happy.

Wikitionary defines "Happy": (1) Experiencing the effect of favorable fortune; having the feeling arising from the consciousness of well-being or of enjoyment; enjoying good of any kind; as peace, tranquility, comfort, contented; joyous. (2) content; having no objection (to something)

Instant Gratification: We want it and we want it now!

Compare this notion with DELAYED GRATIFICATION. Wikipedia states, "Deferred gratification or delayed gratification is the ability to wait in order to obtain something that one wants. This ability is usually considered to be a personality trait which is important for life success. Daniel Goleman has suggested that it is an important component of emotional intelligence. People who lack this trait are said to need instant gratification and may suffer from poor impulse control.

I have been a big fan of instant gratification for the last year or so. I have been desperately seeking out things and people and whatever else that will instantly fulfill whatever it was that I was desiring at the moment. It took a lot of time and events but I think I am finally coming to the conclusion that a little bit of a delayed gratification is ok. I actually will not die if I don't get what I want right now, in this instant moment.

Denying yourself something that you think you want or need can do two things. First, it can drive you crazy and you eventually just do it anyway. Or second, it saves you from doing something that might not turn out to be so good later. So I think my advice to myself, is well, why don't I take a moment and think about IT (whatever IT may be) before I do it. It might save me a lot of time and trouble next time.

OR, it might just drive me crazy and I might just end up doing it anyway! HA! Sounds like fun!
